Zero Accident Vision Through Strategic Engagements in Uttar Pradesh

Director, IGFP Advances Zero Accident Vision Through Strategic Engagements in Uttar Pradesh

The Director of IGFP undertook a significant state visit to Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, to advance the adoption of the Zero Accident Vision approach across industries and strengthen institutional collaboration on occupational safety and health. As part of the visit, a workshop on “Adopt Zero Accident Vision for Industries of Uttar Pradesh” was hosted by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) with the support of the DD Factories, Lucknow Zone, Government of Uttar Pradesh. The programme brought together representatives from industries and regulatory institutions to deliberate on practical approaches for embedding Vision Zero principles into workplace safety practices. The visit also included a courtesy call and professional discussion with Dr. M.K. Shanmuga Sundaram, IAS, Principal Secretary, Labour Department, Government of Uttar Pradesh, providing an opportunity to explore wider cooperation and the expansion of safety-awareness initiatives.

Another important component of the visit was an interaction with a scavenger engaged by the Lucknow Municipal Corporation on 30 July 2026, providing valuable first-hand insight into the occupational safety challenges faced by workers engaged in essential and high-risk activities. The visit highlighted the importance of extending the Zero Accident Vision beyond conventional industrial settings and ensuring that vulnerable and frontline workers are also brought within the framework of safe and dignified work. A key takeaway from the workshop and meetings was the very cordial relationship between the Industries and Labour Departments, demonstrated by the willingness of a Central Public Sector Undertaking to host the programme at very short notice. The positive response from industries and regulators reaffirmed their commitment to advancing Zero Accident Vision, including taking awareness programmes to the district level. The encouraging response from the Principal Secretary, Labour Department, towards hosting an International Conference on Vision Zero further strengthened the prospects for future collaboration. The state visit and associated programmes reached 29 institutions and 62 individuals, creating an important platform for continued advocacy, awareness and action towards achieving safer workplaces and a sustainable Zero Accident Vision.
